Comprehensive functional, integration, and performance testing reduced implementation risk and delivered a stable production launch without reported issues.

When a business-critical platform supports billing, time recording, financial reporting, and regulatory processes, a successful implementation depends on rigorous testing. Discover how Prolifics helped a leading UK and Ireland law firm confidently introduce Aderant Expert through a flexible, risk-based managed testing service.

About the Client

The client is a leading law firm operating across multiple city-centre locations in the UK and Ireland. Its workforce includes more than 1,000 employees, approximately 450 lawyers, and 150 partners.

As its legacy Practice Management System approached end of support, the firm selected Aderant Expert as its new on-premises platform for essential legal and financial operations.

The Challenge

Before Aderant Expert could enter production, the platform required extensive system, integration, end-to-end, user acceptance, and performance testing.

However, the firm faced significant resource constraints. Its Finance team was focused on business-as-usual responsibilities, while the internal testing team was supporting a major HR transformation. The implementation also included multiple business-critical modules and integrations that required specialist validation.

Any unidentified defect or performance limitation could disrupt billing, reporting, time recording, and other essential processes. The client needed an experienced testing partner capable of quickly providing specialist resources, establishing a robust testing framework, and managing delivery against demanding deadlines.

The Prolifics Solution

Prolifics introduced a structured, risk-based managed testing approach aligned with the client’s operational priorities and implementation timeline.

A Senior Test Manager led an initial discovery and scoping exercise, working closely with the client, software vendor, business users, and technical stakeholders. This process identified critical workflows, technical dependencies, high-risk modules, and clear responsibilities across every testing phase.

The engagement included:

  • System, integration, and end-to-end testing
  • Validation of 15 critical Aderant Expert modules
  • Testing of 17 integrations with connected systems
  • Defect identification, management, retesting, and verification
  • User Acceptance Testing readiness support
  • Performance testing using OpenText LoadRunner
  • Flexible access to experienced testing specialists

Functional testing covered important legal and financial processes, including rates management, invoicing and billing, commercial finance, and regulatory reporting.

Prolifics also simulated realistic concurrent-user activity across Expert OTG Time and Expert WIP Aware. This confirmed the platform’s responsiveness, stability, and ability to handle expected workloads within the client’s infrastructure.

The Results

Prolifics helped the client achieve:

  • Successful testing of 15 business-critical modules
  • Reliable validation of 17 system integrations
  • Resolution of identified defects before User Acceptance Testing
  • Greater confidence in platform reliability and scalability
  • Flexible testing capacity without disrupting internal priorities
  • A seamless production implementation with no reported production issues

Following the engagement, the client recognised Prolifics’ ability to rapidly assemble a highly skilled team and collaborate effectively with the software vendor and end users. The firm also indicated its intention to continue using Prolifics as a preferred provider of flexible testing resources.
